WHAT IS CONSTRUCT?

CONSTRUCT…is a student led design competition from Northumbria University’s Architecture school. Northumbria architecture society has been working with the Ouseburn Trust  to bring students and members an exciting unprecedented design project. Groups of 5 or less received a brief on the night the competition began allowing them just two days to create, design and perfect a winning concept. Over 100 students took part in the competition - now a collaboration will take place.

With support from local architects, designers and the universities, the winning design will developed and constructed as a temporary pavilion in time for this years Great Exhibition of the North to be held in Newcastle.

"The point for all of them (temporary interventions), is for architecture to dissolve into our popular culture as quickly as possible, leaving behind changed perceptions of place, a new sense of community, and a sense that you can make a place your own, together, if even for a moment."

 - Aaron Betsky

“The Ouseburn Trust is excited to show off Newcastle’s Cultural Quarter, its dramatic industrial heritage and green spaces. CONSTRUCT presents us with an opportunity to showcase the creative talent of our local designers and makers and offer a platform for local artists and performers to engage the community through a programme of events and activities developed for the duration of the summer months of 2019”

- Chris Barnard Chief Officer of Ouseburn Trust
